Newbury Town Design Statement
I am very pleased to announce that on Tuesday 19 April 2005, the Newbury Town Design Statement (TDS) was adopted by West Berkshire Council as Material Consideration for planning purposes. The TDS analyses the specific nature of the buildings and landscape which make the town distinctive. The Town is divided into 11 'Areas' with their own distinct character. This analysis then clearly links to specific 'recommended design guidelines' for each Area, which aim to only encourage new development that enhances and compliments what already exists. The document concludes with 11 key principles. Whenever a new development is proposed, there is now a requirement to assess the development against the principles and design guidelines of the TDS.
Thank you to everyone who has helped to make this happen. Newbury is a beautiful historic market town – let's do all we can to keep it that way.
