The ‘Newbury in Bloom 2019’ campaign is now underway and you can start to plan your entry and register now! After the huge success of previous events we are looking forward to another successful year.
The campaign aims to improve the appearance of our town and environment and making Newbury a greener, cleaner and more pleasant place to live together with promoting horticultural excellence.
We are encouraging community groups, schools and all members of the community to take part to help make Newbury ‘bloom’ during the summer months.
The Newbury in Bloom campaign features 2 extra categories this year: ‘Canal Boat Floral Display’ and ‘Best Street’. How about getting together with your neighbours to make your street the most eye catching in Newbury!
The 9 categories for the Newbury in Bloom campaign for 2019 are:
If you would like to enter and have a go the Newbury in Bloom entry forms are available from the Town Hall in the Market Place or you can apply online on Newbury Town Council’s website https://newbury.gov.uk/newbury-in-bloom.php
Newbury will be entering the Royal Horticultural Society’s national “Britain in Bloom” competition this year and as our Newbury in Bloom campaign has been such as success in the past we have high hopes for our first entry for a number of years.
As in previous years the Town Council will be putting up over 100 hanging baskets throughout the town and at Shaw and Newtown Road Cemeteries. Beautiful floral displays will be planted at our recreation grounds and open spaces, and Victoria Park, our ‘jewel in the crown’ will be alive with flower beds, roses, flowers and shrubs which have been planted on ‘community planting days’ over the autumn and winter.
Closing date for entries is 23 June 2019 and the judging for the competition will take place week commencing 1 July 2019.
