COMMUNITY BULB PLANTING DAY AT HUTTON CLOSE A SUCCESS DESPITE THE WEATHER!

On 29 November 2025, Newbury in Bloom’s Community Bulb Planting Day at Hutton Close Recreation Ground brought residents together for a morning of teamwork, fresh air, and environmental stewardship, resulting in the successful planting of 1,000 spring bulbs.

Volunteers joined the event on Saturday morning, helping to plant a vibrant mix of daffodils, tulips, and crocuses that will create a colourful display when they bloom next spring. Beyond adding beauty to the Recreation Ground, the bulbs will also support local biodiversity by providing early food sources for pollinators.

“This was a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together, have some fun, and make Hutton Close a brighter, greener place,” said Cllr Ian Jee, Chair of the Town Council’s Green Spaces Working Group. “We’re grateful to everyone who came along and contributed their time and energy.”

Supported by Newbury Town Council, the event saw residents working side-by-side, many bringing along their own trowels and gloves—while others made use of the tools provided. The initiative is part of Newbury in Bloom’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the town’s green spaces and encouraging community involvement.

Residents at Hutton Close are also encouraged to look out for consultation documents arriving in the new year, offering an opportunity to share ideas and feedback on future improvements to the Recreation Ground.   

The morning wrapped up with plenty of muddy hands, shared smiles, and a strong sense of community achievement. Newbury in Bloom thanks everyone who participated and looks forward to seeing the fruits of their labour brighten Hutton Close in the spring.
