COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS INVITED TO HELP PLANT 40 NEW TREES
Local residents are invited to take part in a community tree-planting initiative that will see 40 new trees planted across two green spaces. The planting will take place at Hutton Close and Wash Common Recreation Ground, with 20 trees being planted at each location on Sunday 1st March.
Volunteers are asked to meet at Hutton Close at 10:00am, followed by a second session at Wash Common Recreation Ground at 12:00 noon. Participants are encouraged to bring wellies and gloves to help with the planting activities.
The project is being funded by Newbury Town Council, in partnership with Newbury in Bloom, as part of its environmental commitment to replace every established tree lost with two new trees. A mixture of deciduous species will be planted to enhance biodiversity, improve the local environment, and support long-term sustainability.
Cllr Ian Jee, Chair of the Council’s Green Spaces Working Group said, “This event is a great opportunity for residents to get involved in a hands-on community activity while contributing to a greener future for the area. No prior experience is necessary, and volunteers of all ages are welcome”.
