CROWDS ENJOY FAMILY FUN IN VICTORIA PARK!

Newbury Town Council held a Family Day in Victoria Park on Sunday 1 June and there was a great turn out of people who came along to enjoy the free activities in the sunshine with the Mayor of Newbury, Cllr David Harman and the Mayoress Rosalind Harman, kicking off the fun at noon.

There was entertainment on the Bandstand with the Razzamataz Theatre School, local musicians Rude Not 2 and Watership Brass finished off the day with a spectacular ensemble of popular tunes!  Punch and Judy shows were a real hit with the little ones with everyone joining in the fun.

Cllr David Harman said, “We were delighted to once again host this free event for families in Newbury. It was a wonderful day, and great to see so many people enjoying the park's facilities and activities. While some of our play equipment is unfortunately temporarily out of action, the added attractions made for a fantastic day all around.”

A free Climbing wall and Caving Adventure proved a great draw, and children were happy to join the queue to have a go. The 3rd Newbury Scout Group were raising funds, providing tasty barbeque treats for everyone to enjoy and Kennet Radio came along to keep families entertained throughout the afternoon.

The pedaloes, which were free of charge all day, were a real hit with families enjoying the calm of the Victoria Park pond. Our Tennis Courts were open with free rackets and balls available so everyone could have a go on the day.

Children were thrilled to explore a Fire Engine brought along by Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, enjoying the opportunity to climb aboard and try out the hoses. The excitement continued with a visit from our local Police, who arrived in a Police car that children could sit in, while friendly Officers engaged with families throughout the event.

The Berkshire Lowland Fire & Rescue Team came along to chat to families about what they do as the primary search resource for Thames Valley Police in Berkshire. The volunteers use specialist skills to search for high-risk vulnerable missing persons.

The local branch of ‘Rugby Tots’ had free 20 minute try out sessions for 2 – 7-year-old boys and girls. With the warm weather on Sunday, the children had a great time in the Council’s Splash Park and the Skatepark too.  Newbury Adventure Golf was also in full swing, with people of all ages enjoying the fun.
