MAYOR’S AFTERNOON TEA BRINGS FESTIVE CHEER TO NEWBURY RESIDENTS
The Mayor of Newbury, Cllr David Harman, together with the Mayoress, hosted a Festive Afternoon Tea on Friday 12th December at Newbury Baptist Church Hall, bringing together fifty of Newbury’s senior residents for a relaxed and cheerful afternoon in the run-up to Christmas.
The event was held as a way of saying thank you to local residents and giving something back to the community. Guests were warmly welcomed by the Mayor and Mayoress on arrival before sitting down to enjoy a traditional afternoon tea. The afternoon was filled with friendly conversation, games and entertainment, giving everyone plenty of opportunity to catch up, make new connections and enjoy the festive spirit.
A real highlight of the day was the performances from pupils at St Nicolas School, whose singing and dancing brought smiles all round. Their energy soon had the room buzzing, with plenty of laughter and enjoyment shared between generations.
Speaking after the event, Mayor David Harman said, “It was a pleasure to spend the afternoon with so many of Newbury’s residents and to see everyone enjoying themselves. There was such a lovely atmosphere in the room, with people laughing, talking and really getting into the festive spirit. Events like this are a small but important way of giving back, and I’d like to thank everyone who helped make the afternoon such a success, as well as Newbury Baptist Church for hosting us so warmly.”
