NEWBURY YOUNG TRADERS MARKET CELEBRATED AS A GREAT SUCCESS

Newbury Town Council has hailed the Newbury Young Traders Market a great success following a vibrant day of trading, community support, and entrepreneurial talent in the Market Place on Saturday 30 May alongside the regular Saturday market.

Organised in partnership with the National Market Traders Federation, the event formed part of the nationwide Young Traders Market initiative, which champions young entrepreneurs and provides valuable opportunities for them to showcase and grow their businesses.

Visitors enjoyed browsing a diverse range of stalls featuring handmade crafts, Hong Kong Street food, unique artworks, and innovative creations from talented young traders. The market attracted strong footfall throughout the day, with shoppers coming together to support the next generation of independent businesses.

The event also included an awards presentation recognising the high standard of trading on display. The Mayor of Newbury, Cllr Jo Day, attended the event and presented the awards to the participating traders. Katie Swanson of Katie Daisy Designs who creates her own artwork was announced as the overall winner and will now have the opportunity to progress to the next stage of the Young Traders Market competition.

All of the traders were presented with Highly Commended certificates in recognition of their creativity, professionalism, and contribution to the event.

Joe Harrison, Chief Executive of the National Market Traders Federation, said, “Markets are such an important part of our history and heritage, and it was fantastic to see Newbury Market providing a platform for young people to trade face to face with customers. Events like this create valuable opportunities for young entrepreneurs to gain experience, build confidence, and develop their businesses within their local communities.”

Cllr Vaughan Miller, Chair of the Council’s Market Working Group, said, “It was inspiring to see so many talented young entrepreneurs bringing fresh ideas and energy to our Market. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who attended and supported the traders throughout the day. Events like this help secure the future of our market tradition while encouraging the next generation of local businesses.”

Newbury Town Council would like to thank all the traders, visitors, judges, and partners who helped make the event such a positive celebration of young enterprise and community spirit.
