VICTORIA PARK COMMUNITY CAFÉ CELEBRATES 100 DAYS AT THE HEART OF NEWBURY

Newbury Town Council marked 100 days since the opening of the new Victoria Park Community Café with a special event on Friday 4 September.

The café, which has quickly established itself as a popular addition to Victoria Park, has welcomed residents, families and visitors since opening earlier this year, providing a modern, accessible and welcoming space at the heart of the park.

The 100-day milestone was marked with a gathering at the café, hosted by café operator Deli Spaces and the Mayor of Newbury, Cllr Jo Day. The event provided an opportunity to celebrate the success of the project and reflect on the café’s contribution to the park and the wider community.

Among those attending were representatives from Maspace, the contractors involved in the project, the project manager, Town Councillors and officers, as well as guests from the local community.

The development transformed the former park kiosk into a modern, welcoming and environmentally sustainable café. The building includes accessible entryways, a Changing Places facility, baby changing amenities, male and female toilet facilities, and full-height glazed bi-fold doors offering views across the play area and surrounding park.

Mayor of Newbury, Cllr Jo Day, said “It is fantastic to see the Victoria Park Community Café reaching its first 100 days. The café has created a welcoming space for people to meet, relax and enjoy everything that Victoria Park has to offer. It is particularly pleasing to see it being enjoyed by families and residents who use the park regularly.”

Cllr Roger Hunneman, Chair of the Victoria Park Projects Sub-Committee, said “This café represents the culmination of years of hard work, careful planning and community vision. Over the last 100 days, the café has become an important part of life in the park. It serves our Saturday morning park-runners, families using the playground and visitors enjoying the park.”

The café is one of a number of improvements and initiatives introduced at Victoria Park, alongside the weekly parkrun and the expansion of football facilities, further strengthening the park’s role as a place for recreation, community and wellbeing.
