VICTORIA PARK FAMILY DAY A GREAT SUCCESS!

Victoria Park once again came alive on Sunday 17 May as Newbury Town Council hosted its annual Family Day, welcoming visitors of all ages for an afternoon of entertainment, activities, and community celebration.

The event was officially opened at 12 noon by the Mayor of Newbury, setting the tone for a lively programme of performances and hands-on activities that ran throughout the afternoon. Families enjoyed a full schedule of entertainment, including traditional Punch & Judy shows and live music on the Bandstand, featuring performances from Razzamataz Theatre School, Watership Brass, and local group The Caskettes.

The Mayor of Newbury, Cllr Jo Day, said: “Family Day is always a wonderful opportunity to see the community come together and make the most of everything Victoria Park has to offer. It was fantastic to see so many families enjoying the free activities, entertainment and improved facilities throughout the afternoon. Events like this reflect the strong community spirit we are proud of in Newbury and highlight the importance of providing accessible and inclusive opportunities for residents and visitors of all ages.”

A wide range of attractions proved popular throughout the day, including the climbing wall and mobile caving experience, alongside appearances from Kennet Radio. Children also enjoyed exploring a fire engine and police car, which were on site for the event.

Visitors had the opportunity to experience Victoria Park’s improved facilities, including the brand-new café serving a full menu with seating areas to allow families to relax and enjoy the surroundings.

Local sports and activity groups added to the programme, with Rugby Tots offering sessions for younger children, tennis coaches providing free taster sessions, and representatives from the National Tennis Association on hand to encourage participation in the sport. Adventure Golf and the Bowls Club also welcomed visitors, offering relaxed activities and opportunities to learn more about the sport.

Newbury Town Council thanked everyone who attended and took part, noting that the event continues to be a key date in the community calendar, bringing people together for a free and inclusive day out in the heart of Victoria Park.
