The Mayor of Newbury
The Mayor, apart from members of the Royal Family or the Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire who represents them, takes precedence over all persons in the town.
Honorary Freedom of the Town & Honorary Aldermen
By section 249(5) of the Local Government Act 1972 (amended by section 180 of the Local Government Planning and Land Act 1980, and updated by the Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Act 2009) the Council wishes to recognise those who have given exceptional, dedicated service to the Parish.
Civic Awards
Since 1998, Newbury Town Council has recognised outstanding contributions to the town through the Civic Awards. The awards programme has since expanded to include the Young Person’s Award, Business Award, Environmental Contribution Award and Local Community Group Award.

Mayor Charitable Trust
The Mayor of Newbury's Charitable Trust is a charity run by each Mayor of Newbury during their term in office. Previously known as the Mayor's Benevolent Fund, its activities have been known to exist since the 1920s.
