Town Council Sets Up Coronavirus Emergency Fund Newbury Town Council has allocated £8,000 from its grant fund to assist projects and proposals helping the elderly, vulnerable and at-risk communities in Newbury in response to the coronavirus crisis. Cllr Gary Norman, Chairperson of the Council’s Grants Subcommittee, explained that the Council took this move in order to assist charities and other organisations who need funding to respond to the emergency.
Deputy Leader of the Council, Cllr Olivia Lewis, put out a call for gloves from local hairdressers for them to be redistributed to care homes and carers/social workers who require personal protective equipment where there is a shortage.
Clay Hill Ward The Clay Hill Community Association have been working closely with NTC and WBDC Clay Hill councillors, VCWB, the Neighbourhood Watch and Administrators of the West Berkshire Community COVID Support Facebook Group. The Clay Hill Ward have created and distributed flyers to nearly 3,000 addresses in the area, asking neighbours to help one another and to report to the CHCA any addressed who require supporting.
The Annual Town Meeting will take place in the Council Chamber from 7.00 pm on 23 March. It will comprise a presentation from the Leader of the Council, Councillor Martin Colston, on the Council’s Strategy, 2019 to 2024, as well as Dr Samantha Cartwright, Senior Biodiversity & Planning Officer at the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wildlife Trust, on ‘The Green Corridor Concept’ and how we as a Town Council might better use our green spaces to support this in the future and Berkshire Youth on their plans for the Waterside Centre.
